Galvanised dowel bars are pre-cut lengths of round steel material, they are used to assist in thermal change and lateral movement in concrete slabs. One half of the dowel bar is set in concrete leaving the other end exposed to be joined to the connecting slab is poured at a later stage.
Acting as a load transfer device across the transverse joint between and old concrete and new concrete, keeping them at the same height.
Dowel bars provide concrete reinforcement and are used to assist lateral movement between adjoining slabs as one end of the dowel bar is kept free for expansion and contraction.
Advantages & Benefits:
- Load transfer provided between adjacent concrete slabs, aiding the distribution of loads and prevention of differential settlement
- Improve joint stability stabilising adjacent slabs and reducing the likelihood of cracking
- Improved pavement durability and safety by reducing join movement and the prevention of developing cracks, adding dowel bars to your construction improves the life of the pavement, maintaining a more consistent surface reducing pedestrian and or vehicle ha
